JEN SWANTY BELIEVES IN

Affordable Housing

Jen Swanty's commitment to affordable housing began a decade ago when she faced the challenges of being a single mother raising four young daughters. At the time, the waitlist for subsidized housing was prohibitively long, and many property management companies had strict eligibility requirements that were difficult to meet. While she was fortunate to have the support of family, she understands that many others do not share the same privilege.

Jen firmly believes that access to adequate housing—costing no more than 30% of a household’s annual income—is a fundamental right for every family. As she has stated, “Food, clothing, and shelter are the three essentials for survival. If the cost of shelter becomes so burdensome that it undermines the ability to afford food or clothing, the basic foundation of survival is compromised.”

With this understanding, Jen is dedicated to advocating for new development projects that prioritize the creation of affordable housing units in Loveland. Her approach ensures that these efforts address the needs of a broad range of income levels, not just the lowest Area Median Income (AMI) groups, creating a more inclusive and sustainable community for all.

Education

In 1984, Whitney Houston famously sang, “I believe the children are our future. Teach them well and let them lead the way,” a sentiment that Jen Swanty wholeheartedly embraces. She understands that quality education is essential for Loveland’s future generations to thrive as productive members of the community. Access to strong educational opportunities not only fosters better job prospects but also reduces inequality and promotes social mobility.

While serving on the Master Planning Committee for the Thompson School District, Jen identified significant disparities in resources and services between newer schools and those in long-established neighborhoods. She also recognized the growing demand for alternative education options and the increasing need for enhanced mental health services for students. Committed to addressing these challenges, Jen advocates for equitable access to educational resources, ensuring that all students, regardless of their background, have the tools they need to succeed.

Future Forward: Transparency from City Council

It is natural to reflect on past challenges, and while Jen Swanty values the importance of learning from mistakes, she also emphasizes the need for the current City Council to work collaboratively to address the pressing issues facing Loveland today.

The Loveland community has voiced concerns about the city’s financial state and is seeking transparency and solutions. Jen shares these concerns and is committed to finding answers. She firmly believes that city government should represent and serve the people. By prioritizing active listening and thoughtful engagement, she aims to contribute to meaningful solutions that will strengthen Loveland and ensure a more prosperous future in 2025.
